New Work – July 2012

Roman Candle
40 x 62 inches
acrylic on canvas

I began this painting before I was pregnant. At the time that I moved out of my old studio last September, it was half-finished, and it spent the winter rolled up and waiting for me to work on it again post-baby. When I returned to it two months ago, I found that the structure was solid but that all of the color choices wanted to go to ten. Bright, bright, bright, stripe, stripe, stripe. I listened to Shostakovich’s Seventh Symphony for a strong attack, and as a result, this piece feels triumphant. A joyful return after a long gestation.

I also notice that this figure is a sister or wife companion for the male Strange Rider figure. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
