New Work – July 2009
Carnival, 2009, acrylic on canvas, 55 x 75 inches
I learned a lot from this painting. Composing on this scale can eat you alive unless you develop a strategy for attacking the space. In this case I took a cue (or two) from Georges Braque, who really knew how to divide and conquer a composition. (Lately I love this book of his late works).
I surprised myself a little with the content of this one. It seems that suddenly we are in bloom.
